Steve's Porteur rackSteve came across this very cool vintage 'porteur' bike in Paris. So one of these racks was required for the very tasty commuter he rides to work; fast rider, snappy suit, dark glasses and laptop bag. While a similar rack can be bought overseas, the freight cost to Australia will be scary. There was quite a bit of work involved: choice of material, diameter, wall thickness, mounting tabs, bending, jigging, welding and finishing. The final product is fully stainless steel and tig welded with a nice understated brushed finish. The mounting tabs are drilled and trimmed to suit, and the use of a fork crown daruma mount under the fork steerer keeps it nice and neat. After years trying to find an excuse to build one, Steve's detailed request was just what I needed to finally create it. click on a thumbnail to view the image |
