Michael's all-road frame and fork
Michael wanted a frame and fork for all types of riding; road, dirt-roads
and light-touring. After a bike fit session with Dominic Briscombe, I
came up with the design below.
Made to use Shimano's 'long reach' 57mm reach brakes, it can run tyres
up to 700x 32C, and with smaller tyres, mudguards as well. Columbus Life
tubing was chosen for a light-weight and lively ride. Darrell McCullock's
'Llewellyn' brand fork tips, rear dropouts and STI bosses (designed right
here in Australia) were used to provide the necessary mounting points
for mudguards and rack. Zona chainstays were substituted to work with
those rear dropout, the Life chainstay tips inexplicably being a larger
diameter (a very italian quirk)
The usual bits were used; Paragon cro-mo BB, relieved inside, a thin-wall
Columbus headtube was used along with a reinforcement ring used only where
it's needed on the lower end. True Temper's fantastic OXPLATLT road steerer
in the fork, with Columbus' road unicrown blades, which are apparently
no longer being made.
Finished in a sensible black colour and sporting Cane Creek's fantastic
100 headset.
